Dabbawala service in Mumbai amid the COVID-19 pandemic – Expressing concern over their situation, senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy on Sunday appealed to the Maharashtra government to save the Dabbawalas in Mumbai from starvation amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

 Since 1890, Dressed in a white outfit and traditional Gandhi Cap, Mumbai Army of 5,000 Dabbawalas fulfilling the hunger of almost 200,000 Mumbaikar with home-cooked food served between home and office daily.

The dabbawala service is legendary for its reliability. Since it was founded, in 1890, it has witnessed famines, wars, monsoons, Hindu-Muslim riots, a series of terrorist attacks, and now COVID -19.
Dabbawalas who provides a daily fresh home meal to lakhs of the customer in Mumbai for decades have been mostly impacted as their service depends on the city’s running business. Nearly five months of the pandemic with no to earn a livelihood.

Dabbawalla services satisfying your hunger this season. 

“Hunger is the best pickle” This quote holds quite right when it comes to your meals every day, which is breakfast, lunch, dinner. Millions of office goers and working men and women rely on tiffin services for their meals. The home-cooked meals catered by the Dabbawallas at your office are the traditional way of having meals in India. People get the comfort zone in having their meals from dabbawalla as they are home-cooked and hygienic. Restaurant meals are delicious but cannot be eaten every day because of health. Dabbawalla meals are simple, nutritious, clean, and can be consumed every day. 

Covid impacts the services of dabbawalla meals. 

Because of Covid season, the Dabbawallas are losing their jobs as people prefer to carry their meals at the workplace due to the spread of coronavirus. As people are working from home, they take care of their meals from their kitchens themselves. This is creating a concern for millions of Dabwallas across India. The problem with the local trains also makes the delivery impossible to the office goers. With the least minimum office goers, the dabbawala services have become extinct this season. There is a concern for BJP leader and Rajya Sabha Member Subramanium Swamy to save dabbawalas from starvation this season.

Modern delivery of food

Healthy cooked meals are needed for the hour. With Zomato and Ubereats providing the new modern quality services with effective sanitization, the dabbawalas are having no work and are going jobless. The Dabbawallas are hoping that the government will soon start with the Mumbaikars’ local train service, which will help them commute and provide food to the office goers. We at Prittle Prattle have voiced the Dabbawalas’ opinion, expressing our concern to help save them from starvation and going jobless. We hope the government takes quick action in restoring their services by providing solutions. 

However, Dabbawala’s have much hope that the state government will start the local trains sooner.
