Following the acquisition by Tata, BigBasket intends to focus heavily on express delivery.

Tata salt-to-software Tata Group prepares to debut its much-anticipated mega app under Digital later this year.

Tata will introduce rapid delivery, a category that the online grocery company has previously dabbled with but abandoned, according to cofounders Hari Menon and Vipul Parekh.

Over the next two to three months, BigBasket, in which Tata Digital just bought a controlling share, intends to launch a quick-delivery service, a category in which well-capitalized businesses like SoftBank Vision Fund-backed Swiggy are investing significantly. In the first interview since Tata Digital’s $1.2 billion investment in BigBasket, the cofounders stated that the platform would include omnichannel aspects and local language choices as it nears the debut of fast delivery.

“We learned how to create this vertical in the past…and will now launch it under the umbrella,” Menon added. They stated that these new efforts and improvements would be implemented at BigBasket over the following few months. “There have been talks about how to create this thing as a whole, whether it’s Tata Digital or the different companies. There is a lot of agreement in our thinking, and I am incredibly comfortable with it, “Menon said.
