Female Education: There is no acceptable justification to support the exclusion of women from the privilege of education.
It is stated that Female Education women had domestic tasks to complete. If people were educated, others would bury themselves in their books and have a short time for family administration. The height of selfishness for males, who fully realize the enormous benefit of high education in their situation, denies the same benefits to women.
Of course, like men, women might disregard important tasks to devote more time to reading exciting novels. However, women are no more susceptible to this temptation than men, and most women would benefit from being able to renew their minds with a bit of reading in their spare time.
On the other hand, education would assist them in performing the most limited field of womanly responsibility. For education entails knowledge of the ways by which health can be kept and developed. It enables a woman to study such contemporary literature to instruct her how to grow her children into healthy men and women and how to skillfully nurse them and her husband when sickness strikes her household.
Without education, she is more inclined to follow the counsel of superstitious quacks who claim to cure diseases with charms and magic. However, according to a higher vision of women’s domain, women should be more than a domestic drudge. She should be able to nurse her husband while he is ill and be his company when he is well.
Education is required for this aspect of her wifely duties because there can be no pleasant company between an educated man and an ignorant wife. They can speak with her husband on no higher matters than cuisine and servant’s salaries. One of a mother’s most important responsibilities is to educate her children when their minds are most open to learning.
To a significant part, a child’s entire future existence is dependent on the instruction it gets in early childhood, and an uneducated mother cannot effectively establish this first foundation of education. Female education is an absolute requirement on all of these grounds.
