Chennai-Mumbai faster trains! Indian Railways has completed the renovation of the track to increase speed.

India has recorded 42,766 new cases of COVID-19, 1,206 deaths in 24 hours.

Indian Railways aims to improve passenger comfort and to improve speed, and safety. In this respect, it is a mission to increase the speed of its system by eliminating bottlenecks in the South Central Railway Zone. A significant speed limit between the Kalamalla-Yerraguntla railway stretch of the Chennai-Mumbai line has been removed by the Guntakal Division recently. Now trains on Chennai – Mum is eliminating this severe speed limit.

According to the national transport company, in a mere space of 12 days, track renovation work comprising Training Treatment (TFTR) has been completed. See the video on how the Yerraguntla-Kalamalla segment of Andhra Pradesh rejuvenation has been finished.

The job consisted of the demolition of the paths, exhumation of the formations, installing new blanket layers with geotextiles, filling blankets, dozing work, the roll in two layers, and the re-assembly of the tracks. Train services currently operate at increased speed on this trail segment.

In the front part of the current financial cycle, the South Central Railway also had the best loadings. According to the Zonal Railways, South Central Railways gained impetus and recorded best load statistics at pre-covid levels in April and June. Over the period from April to June 2021, the Zone exceeded the objective of 27.5 million tonnes (MTs), established by the Railways Board, which is 55% greater than the 18.4 MTs reported from April to April June 2020. In addition to the highest freight loading numbers, the volume of freight income increased 58% (Rs 2,468 crore).

The South Central Railways zone is beneficial for freight transport due to its tireless efforts despite the impact of the second wave of Covid. One rail official claimed that while it was intended to make the lines operating at 160kph, the average speed would increase substantially from today’s 70km to around 120km and 130km. This means that it would increase considerably. “This is more than sufficient to make the travel speedier and more comfortable. The journey time to locations along the two routes can also be improved,” he says.

The NRP prepares Indian Railways for accelerating the upgrades of Chennai-Delhi and Chennai-Mumbai lines – which are classified as high-density routes – to guarantee that trains operate at a speed of up to 160kph.
