With Well Done Baby, I’m primarily at a loss for words since there’s nothing to say, and what little there is, is dismal and bland at best. The film, directed by Priyanka Tanwar and written by Marmanda Gavhane, stars Pushkar Jog, Amruta Khanvilkar, and Vandana Gupte as the main characters. The picture has a large budget. Everything is bright, noisy, and unreal, which is typical of most big-budget Hindi films. Unfortunately, the frames’ glossy production design and color quality make the film vulgar and visually unappealing to watch, and it lacks the charm that big-budget films typically have. It tries to be progressive for the most part and during the first half of the film, but then it loses steam and becomes subservient, pounded into the mold and shape that only society permits it to be. Love, divorce, marital problems, therapy, sex, and the requirements of an “independent” woman – the film attempts to cover all of these issues, which are not only progressive but also have great potential for drama and masala, none of which the movie can capitalize on. The plot swiftly transitions from aiming to be progressive to becoming problematic and depriving all of its characters of their biological agency.
