Elon Musk responds after ISRO successfully tests the Vikas engine for the Gaganyaan mission.

Elon Musk stated in February that the first unmanned trip would take place in December 2021, followed by a human spaceflight demonstration in 2022-23.

Elon Musk: The performance of the Vikas engine fulfilled test objectives, according to ISRO, and the parameters closely matched forecasts during the test.

On July 14, Elon Musk the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) completed the third long-duration hot test of the liquid propellant Vikas engine for the Gaganyaan program, the country’s first human space mission. ISRO said that the engine was fired for 240 seconds at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) engine test site in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu.

It also noted that the engine’s performance fulfilled the test goals and that the engine parameters closely matched the forecasts throughout the test. According to the space agency, the test was carried out for the core L110 liquid stage of the human-rated GSLV MkIII vehicle as part of the Gaganyaan program’s engine certification criteria. Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, responded to ISRO’s tweet by congratulating the space agency on the successful hot test of the Vikas Engine.

With an emoji of the Indian flag, he added, “Congratulations.” The Gaganyaan program aims to show the capacity to launch humans into low-Earth orbit and return them to Earth using an Indian launch vehicle. Jitendra Singh stated in February that the first unmanned trip would take place in December 2021, followed by a human spaceflight demonstration in 2022-23.

As part of the Gaganyaan program, four Indian astronaut candidates have previously completed basic space flight training in Russia. The mission will be carried out by ISRO’s heavy-lift launcher GSLV Mk III. Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally introduced the Gaganyaan initiative during his Independence Day address on August 15, 2018. The original goal was to start human spaceflight by August 15, 2022, the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.
